Eugene S. Melchionne Named 2008 Connecticut Super Lawyer
January 25. 2008
Waterbury, CT.

Law & Politics, a national attorney-led research team, in conjunction with Connecticut Magazine, has named Eugene S. Melchionne of Waterbury as one of the 2008 Connecticut “Super Lawyers.” This is the second time that Melchionne has received this prestigious award.

Super Lawyers is a comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys, representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations. Only 5 percent of the lawyers in each state or region are named Super Lawyers. Law & Politics performs the polling, research and selection of Super Lawyers in a process designed to identify lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Melchionne received his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut in 1977 and graduated from Drake University School of Law in 1980 where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for academic excellence. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Bankruptcy Law Network, an internet provider of bankruptcy information to consumers and the Connecticut State Chair for National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Last fall, he was appointed to the Supreme Court’s Commission on Foreclosures in light of the unprecedented increase in home foreclosures in Connecticut. He is a proud survivor of the Max Gardner Bankruptcy Boot Camp, an intensive study of bankruptcy issues in consumer credit and mortgages. Formerly, Melchionne was a Vice President of the Waterbury Credit Bureau and a member of the Northwestern Regional Council of the American Institute of Banking and the only attorney to receive its prestigious Ken Kovel Award. He has also been repeatedly recognized by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Pro Bono service to indigent consumers.

He currently limits his practice to consumer bankruptcy cases, foreclosure defense and all consumer claims arising with respect to those cases. Melchionne has been widely recognized as a leading consumer attorney in bankruptcy cases. He has also taken on creditors who attempt to collect debts that have been legally discharged in a bankruptcy case.

Melchionne is a long-time member of NACBA and a national speaker on bankruptcy law and consumer representation. He has been featured on the PBS show “NOW“ on two occasions, appeared on a segment of “Your Money” on CNN and has been interviewed by the NY Times, Business Week, the Connecticut Law Tribune and numerous Connecticut newspapers. He is a native of Waterbury and currently resides here with his wife, Helene and son, Ronald.
